Powers
Attacks:
Steal:
Zidane is a master Theif, easily capable of lifting items from foes in pitched combat, and even doing so while attacking. Sadly the young man has gotten a bit rusty in his short reign as king, but its nothing a few days of practice would not fix.
Skills:
Zidane has picked up on a number of useful tricks in his travels, gaining a distinct edge in combat by depending on a mix of power and guile. Each of these Skills is centered around the arts of a theif and draw on his years of experience to aid in combat.
Flee:
Be it the greed of trained guards or the natural attraction of monsters to shiny things, Gil can provide the perfect cover for an escape. Zidane has learned how to use this little fact to his advantage without putting too much of a dent in his coin purse. He is able to throw just enough gill to distract foes for an escape without using too much or too little.
Detect:
It takes a sharp eye to be a thief. Its important to learn just who you can steal from and what they have to steal. Zidane's eye is especially keen and he is able to take a few seconds and inspect a foe, quickly picking up on most of the obvious valuables and some of the less obvious valuables an opponent may posses.
Soul Blade:
Most Theives use blades with poison or some status magic on them for that little edge in combat. After using one for so long Zidane has learned how to focus his attacks and take the time to make an ailment stick. This does leave him a bit more exposed in combat but usually it is well worth it.
Whats that?!:
You would think that in real combat simple and blatant misdirection would never work. perhaps that is why it works so very well. With a sincere look and a sudden gesture Zidane can fake out most foes and leave a nice big opening for anyone to exploit. The only down side is that sometimes a foe really should be watching out behind them. Oh the Irony!
Annoy:
Using his superior agility Zidane is able to dart around the battlefield with almost comical ease. This often frustrates and off balances foes who are used to taking life and death combat more seriously. This annoyance can often cause an opponent to forget his footing or ignore incoming attacks, leaving them wide open for Zidane or any companions.
Thievery:
When you get close enough to steal something from someone else, its easy to start spotting openings in their defense. Small Weaknesses slowly turn into gaping holes of vulnerability and any defense with sword or shield starts moving in painful slow motion. With each successful instance of thievery Zidane learns more and more about how to deliver devastating blows to any foe, cutting them down before they have the chance to react.
Trance:
Dyne:
As A Genome, Zidane is able to tap into the power locked deep within him at creation. In this state Zidane has access to several unique attacks all drawing from the strange Terran energy that suffuses his being. This power has weakened somewhat after his experiences with garland and fighting Kuja in the Crystal world, but the fact that he is still able to trance suggests that Zidane may indeed still retain a soul in some form or another.
Free Energy:
Zidane unleashes energy at a foe in the shape of beams taking up the length of his outstreached arms and causing powerful yet compressed explosions upon impact. The beams are released in rapid succession and have difficulty targeting more than one spot.
Tidal Flame:
A wave of Raw burning energy springs up from beneath Zidane, rolling over his foes like molten Plasma.
Scoop art:
One massive blast of pure energy emits from Zidane into the sky before striking back down to earth at one of his foes with pinpoint precision.
Shift break:
A powerful energy vortex encircles a single foe and constricts to cause heavy damage.
Stellar Circle 5:
A rain of energy beams form in the air above Zidane before smashing down into the earth ripping apart the ground as they hit and dealing heavy damage to anything else in their path.
Meo twister:
A massive spiral of pure energy Forms around A point Zidane focuses on and buffets foes for heavy damage while knocking them about with high winds.
Solution 9:
A wave of energy spheres springs up from the air and fly around in every direction seemingly at random. Each one packs a large amount of concussive force.
Grand lethal:
A swirling mass of small energy beams arc out from Zidanes body and seek all who stand agaisnt him, striking with shocking force and precision while arcing to try and hit their target.
History
As a young orphan, Zidane Tribal has spent most of his life totally oblivious to his intended fate, or his true potential. Zidane is the adopted son of Baku, the leader of the Tantalus theater troupe, a group of thieves who use their position as famous performers as a cover for their less reputable activities. For his background and vocation Zidane led a rather uneventful life, that was until the day that Tantalus was hired to pull perhaps one of the most spectacular jobs in history, Kidnapping princess garnet.
The job was smooth enough. Getting into the palace was fairly easy. The surprise came when it was discovered that Princess Garnet actually wished to be kidnapped, having made up her mind to escape from home due to worries about her mother. Unfortunately in the attempt to escape, queen Brhane attacked the troupe's airship, the Prima Vista, triggering a long, complicated, and devestating series of events.
Crash landing in the infamous 'evil forest', Zidane was forced to leave his adopted family in order to save the princess, though even it was perhaps the hardest thing he had ever done. Unfortunately as he attempted to rescue her, Zidanes friend blank and apparently the rest of Tantilus was sealed away as the Evil forest petrified.
This loss shook Zidane to his core, but the young man had sworn to get the princess to the kingdom of Lindbaum where she would be safe. His deepening affection for this girl and a sense of duty to his fellow Tantalus drove the young man to focus himself on keeping the princess and his new companions safe.
Making their way though the ice caves and encountering the first of the three black waltzes the party found their way out above the dangerous monster producing mists that plauge the mist continent, the group arrived in the seemingly quiet little village of Dali. It was in this village of Dali when his young companion, the black mage Vivi, discovered that he was in fact a creation, a construct made of Mist and commissioned for the queen. This knowledge was a hard blow to garnet, who had not realized just how far her mothers plans had gone.
This reaffirmed the need in garnets mind to go off to Lindblum, which prompted Zidane to steal a cargo ship that had been bound for Alexandria. Unfortunately as soon as they got back, it seemed that Zidane no longer had any reason to protect the princess, now that she was under care of the Regency and out of harms way. His job was done, yet for once Zidane felt like he was missing out on something, someone special. After meeting up with an old friend named Freya and participating in some of the traditional frivolity of the Regency had to offer things were just starting to look up again when a messenger came from Freyas homeland of Brumecia announcing with his dying breath that the kingdom was under attack.
Things only got worse as plans were made to go defend Freyas homeland. The queen was suspected, and the party made plans to rush off and aid Brumecia, Garnet used a sleeping root she aquired from zidane to put the others to sleep and ran off to Alexandria in an attempt to confront her mother.
Unfortunately Zidane quickly realized that it was his own growing attachment to the princess coupled with his overprotective instincts that had caused her to strike out on her own. Worried that she had left to solve the attack on her own, he and his companions made haste to Brumecia, only to find the kingdom in ruins and the queen conversing with a strange young man with a silver dragon. Zidane learned of the queens plan to destroy freyas people before challenging her and losing a battle to her general, Beatrix.
Surviving the encounter, The young theif and his companions made their way to Cleyra in an attempt to stem off the queens assault. Unfortunately it seemed that they were expected and after staving off a pincar attack from Alexandrian soldiers and Black mages, the party was again confronted with Beatrix who stole the gem controlling the sand storm that protected Cleyra. Zidane and his companions gave chase, using teleporting black mages to make their way onto the queens flagship, the Red rose, only moments before the queen herself summoned Odin and leveled the treetop town and killing most of the inhabitants.
It was here that Zidane discovered that the queen had extracted the Edilons from Garnet, and planned to kill her own daughter as a traitor. Using the black mage telepad he went with Vivi and Freya to rescue the girl he loved, along the way re-uniting with Stiener. They managed to escape, ending up in pinnacle rocks where Garnet aquired her first new Edilon, Rhamu. Unfortunately after gaining Rhamu's aid, they arrived at Lindblum as it was being attacked. Garnet watched helplessly as another of her own Edilons was used to devastate the town and kill so many people in it.
Zidane did what he could to console her, but sadly nothing could be said. So instead they pressed onward and spoke again with regent Cid who informed them that Kuja, the man manipulating the queen, was said to hail from an entirely different continent. Sadly Regent Cid could not offer any direct aid as his kingdom had fallen under Alexandrian rule, so Zidane was forced to take Garnet and Vivi, and seek out an alternate route to the outer continent.
After a brief visit to the dwarvish realm of Conde Petie, The appearence of a black mage prompted the party to head to the nearby forest, deep within which they managed to find a small village full of self aware black mages. These mages all had their own personalities, and sought to live in peace and harmony with each other. Still it was here that Vivi learned of his short life span, and that of his people. Zidane did his best to comfort his young friend, but knew that this was something he had little power over. It was here also that Zidane learned of the Ilfa tree, the place the dwarves called the sanctuary and the possible hideout for Kuja.
Unfortunately, or perhaps fortunately, Zidane discovered that the dwarves only allowed newlyweds to make a trek out to the tree. Jokingly of course Zidane proposed that he and Garnet get married, only to be flabberghasted when she accepted. Although it was not intended to be, the two still consider this their official wedding, and the point at which Zidane became Prince and heir apparent of Alexandria. Zidane did his best to show garnet he really wanted the marriage to mean something, in his own unpolished way, but she seemed far more interested in completing their mission to get to the Ilfa tree.
Thankfully a young girl named Eiko helped the party sneak past the dwarves guarding the path to the Sanctuary, and then led them to her home in Madain Sari where she attempted to win Zidanes heart. It was here that they learned more about the Ilfa tree, and that Eiko was responsible for the barrier around it. Although she could not impress zidane, who quite frankly had no idea the child even had a crush on him, she still decided to let them go to the tree in an attempt to win his heart. It is also here that Garnet beings to remember her true past, and Zidane does his best to comfort her though the hard transition.
Exploring the Ilfa tree, Zidane discovered that it was the source of all mist, and furthermore housed a great pool of souls. They defeated the trees guardian, stopping the flow of mist and apparently disrupting the influx of monsters into the world.
This celebration is short lived however as two bounty hunters show up in the ruined summoner village seeking Garnet and her pendant. The first bounty hunter attempts to take Eiko as a hostage but is scared off by Ardimant, who holds a grudge against Zidane and challenges him to a fight.
After defeating Ardimant, and letting him live, the warrior decides to travel with Zidane and learn more about him and why he is so 'strange'. Zidane does little to protest and soon the party heads to the Ilifa tree again, just in time to witness Kuja stealing Bahamut from The queen and using it to destroy her fleet. Garnet rushes to the base of the tree, desperate to use the summon there to save her mother, but is unable to do so and can only watch as the fleet is devastated. They find the queen washed up on shore, and are there for garnet to say her final goodbyes to her adopted mother.
They return to alexandria, where Garnet is to be corinated as queen. It is a happy day for the people, but zidane spends his time drowning in whisky and moping, refusing any social contact and working himself into a funk. He refuses to be consoled, requiring quite a bit of pressure to even request an audience with Garnet. Worse still when he gets it he has nothing to say really, feeling that he cannot ever hope to win her heart. Instead he decides to simply go off to a card tournament in Treno, hoping the distraction would do him some good. He manages to relax a little and even wins the tournament itself, but the moment of joy is short lived. Kuja begins attacking Alexandria and the party rushes to her aid.
Although Eiko gets to the princess first and the two managed to summon The mighty Alexander, the appearance of the invincible, Garlands flagship, soon brought the celebration to a halt. In one swift stroke Alexander was destroyed, and The two summoners only saved by Zidanes quick reflexes and determination to see Garnet safe.
They all retreated to Lindblum once more, Zidane devastated that he was unable to help Garnet who had gone though so much, and was now mute from shock. It killed him, knowing that the woman he loved was in so much pain and he was unable to do a thing about it. Worse still Regent Cid was unable to finish a new airship design in his current state, leaving Zidane to go look for potions in an attempt to change him back. Unfortunately the attempt failed, but the party was still able to take the last remaining ship of the queens fleet across to the other continent.
Unfortunately Kuja was waiting, and trapped the party as soon as they arrived. He threatened Zidane with an ultimatum. he wanted him to go to the lost continent and retrieve the Gulug stone with the intent of saving his friends lives.
Unfortunately Zidane had no idea that his friends had already escaped, and so Kuja was able to escape kidnapping Eiko and attempting to draw out her Edilons with the help of Zorn and Thorn as he had with Garnet. Thankfully Eiko was far too young, and so Zidane and his friends were able to rescue Eiko and defeat Thorn and Zorn in their true form.
Eventually the party manages to track Kuja down to the shimmering Island, which is in reality a gateway to the planet Terra. Here, in his home world, Zidane was shocked to meet another Genome named Mikoto, who was apparently his younger sister. She told him part of the story about how he came to be, a disillusioning revelation that caused Zidane to wander off in despair. He was then confronted with Garland, his creator, who explained to him his purpose as an angel of death and told him of the plan to replace Gaian souls with Terran ones. Upon hearing this the young Genome fell into a deep despair, seeing no direction in his life and no perpose. it was not until his friends came for him that Zidane realized that he still had a reason for living, even after Garland had ripped the Terran soul from his body.
Renewed with the knowledge that he had people to protect, Zidane and his companions fought against Garland attempting to thwart his plans. Kuja stepped in moments after the battle, using the soul of the queen to enter Trance and using Ultima to kill garland. he had heard about his fate as an accidental genome, and decided that if he was doomed to die, that everything should die.
Zidane quickly commandeers the Invincible and Escapes with his companions, sister and the genomes back to gaia just as Kuja unleashes his wrath and obliterates Terra. Kuja then moves on to the lifa tree, apparently intent on destroying Gaia as well. Garnet and Zidane form a plan to go to the tree and stop him once and for all. The survivors of the war Kuja started band together, and force their way past the barrier, into the lifa tree, and into the world of Memoria. There, Garlands spirit guides Zidane towards his brother, where the genome makes one last bid to stop Kuja from destroying everything. Still enraged by his own mortality, Kuja sends a powerful monster after them before unleashing ultima, killing Zidane and those who fought along side him.
But the end was not to come. Zidane and his companions were confronted with necros, the incarnation of death itself. Not willing to simply slip away, they fought against necros with every ounce of strength, winning it seemed just as Kuja realized the error of his ways with help from his sister.
Kuja raised Zidane and the others just as the lifa tree began to collapse. Zidane began to run with the others, but then turned back, deciding he had to try and save his brother even after all the pain Kuja had caused.
A year later, At Garnets 17th birthday celebration, Tantalus was preforming 'i want to be your Canary.' The queen was rather despondent about the event, as it reminded her of zidane. This all changed when the person playing marcus threw his hood back, and Zidane revealed himself to his lost beloved. He gratefully met the queens loving embrace and even accepted her scornful anger. They were together again, all was right with the world, that was all that mattered.
Yet somehow it was not. Zidane was thrilled to be with his beloved wife, and their friends were all so happy. Steiner married Beatrix, Vivi had a slew of children, though apparently had passed on. Eiko was adopted by the regent Cid and his wife. Quain was the permanent chef and Mikoto was adjusting to life as A princess. Even Freya had her lost love back. People were happy and moving on. But then there was Kuja. Sure Zidane had his complaints about being king. Getting dressed up every day was a bit annoying and Rusty didn't let him go out nearly as much as he would like. But the real problem was that in the back of his mind, Zidane could not accept that his brother was gone. He could still feel him, sense him close by. It was strange considering the hell Kuja put them though but deep down He knew that the lifa tree had not been the end.
There were other things on his mind as well, feelings that somehow the Genomes and black mages needed help. The genomes needed souls, and the black mages just lived far, far too short a time. Deep down Zidane knew that if he could find Kuja he could find the answers to these things too. As much as it pained him, King Zidane Tribal the first, Sovereign ruler of Alexandria, snuck out the window of his bedroom one fateful night, leaving his beloved wife only a letter with a promise to return and a request that she not cry.
Roleplay Sample:
Zidane let out a sigh as he looked down at the large ornate bed where his beloved slept. What was he doing? Leaving Dagger, Garnet, alone again like this. This was the worry running though the young kings mind all week. Ever since he made up his mind to go out and look for his older brother. "d**n it Kuja. Why the hell do you have to be my brother? Garnet I promise you I'll be home soon. I swear on my life that I will come back with answers and make everyone happy again."
It hurt like hell, but Everyone else would be there to keep an eye on her. Mister and Missus Rusty would never let anything happen to her, Nor would Makoto. Hell Even Eiko would do her part when she made her all too frequent visits. Besides, The people needed at least one of their leaders to stay so that they could feel safe. Garnet was the one thing that brought people hope after all of the hardship. As much as he wanted her to come with him he could never be that selfish. Maybe at one point in life he could have, but now he had the people, his people to consider.
"Garnet... just don't cry. Please. I hate myself for having to go, but I don't want you to cry." With that, he walked over to her and put a hand on her cheek. He lingered as long as he dared before slipping the letter under her pillow and turning to leave, moving over to the window. He would be back soon.... as soon as he found Kuja. After all he survived, why wouldn't his brother?
